ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Eco-Maker project aims to produce materials for teachers to combat climate change through the Maker movement and STEAM e-course. In addition, the Eco-Maker project offers a hybrid education system that combines Maker, STEAM, and Eco-School curricula and educational methods. Students and their STEAM course teachers will produce prototypes such as wind turbines and small solar panels at Maker workshops to address climate change.
PROJECT RESULTS
Project Result 1: A Pre-Structured Self-Learning Concept for Environmentally Friendly Product Creation. With PA1, students’ product development and management skills will be improved, encompassing the skills needed to plan, design, produce, and manage a product’s lifecycle such as creating a prototype, cost-effectiveness, and profitability.
Project Result 2: The Eco-Maker curriculum and elective course will integrate STEAM curriculum topics applicable to maker workshops. This one-term elective lesson plan program includes weekly project-based training on selected topics. This project result will enable teachers to implement STEAM- and maker space-related activities so their students learn how to collaborate, ask good questions, solve problems, and think critically.
Project Result 3: Eco-Maker e-learning module is a professional development e-course designed for teachers. This e-course will support educators in understanding the maker movement, fundamentals of electronics (such as circuits, analog and digital concepts, schematics, voltage, and safety considerations), applying and utilising Arduino, exploring 3D design and printing, adapting to maker culture, and developing diverse lesson plans for STEAM or other subjects. This activity supports digital transformation by enhancing digital readiness, resilience, and capacity-building among educators.

Project Result 4: Eco-Maker Device Against Climate Change (EMDACC4) aims to produce sensors for energy conservation in classrooms. These devices detect if windows are left open for too long, if lights are on in an empty room, or if tap water has been running excessively. Students will build these sensors collaboratively with their teachers. This activity promotes interest and excellence in STEAM by integrating practical environmental solutions into educational settings.

FabLab Messina
The no-profit association FabLab Messina was born in Messina in 2014 to be a reference to those who were making use of the tools for Industry 4.0. Since then the association started gathering hobbyists, freelancers, and students who, mixing their skills, gave birth to many projects and ideas.
As with many other FabLabs (it’s a worldwide phenomenon), our association works mainly on the local scale even though our FabLab has been happily involved in international events (Maker Faire Roma, Trasformatorio).
